History of Samsi "Your restaurant is fantastic" – Duncan Bannatyne (Dragons Den) In April 2013 we will celebrate our 20th birthday. It is now well established and recognised as serving 'the best Japanese food in the North West by a county mile' to quote Manchester metro news. Since opening Samsi has been featured on channel 4's ' Richard and Judy' and Piccadilly radio recommended by almost every local newspaper and also featured by national newspapers and magazines as diverse as the Sunday Times and The Sun. It has been nominated for numerous awards including Life magazine's best Newcomer. The menu was chosen to feature dishes from every region in Japan. In 1993 Japanese food was hard to find and expensive. Samsi aimed for the balance of authenticity and trying to convert the most reserved British taste buds. Smoked salmon sushi was originally frowned on by sushi gurus but served by us first 18 years ago, it is now available in most supermarkets. We cater well for sushi connoisseurs too, although it is only a fraction of our menu. The menu is constantly updated and new dishes are always introduced. Incredibly, due to the weakening of the Japanese Yen and the lower cost of authentic ingredients imported to Britain, the prices at Samsi have not increased over the 20 years it has been open, making the experience excellent value too.
